Cueva
del elefante (Altea)
- Entry: from the boat
- Depth: 12 metres 39 feet
-
What to expect:This
cave is called elephant cave, because the rock marking the entrance
has the shape of an elephant's head. Here it is possible to visit
two caves in one dive. The first, Elephant Cave, is in 12m of water
and has a broad entrance. The second, 20 metres further along has a
double entrance of which one hides just below the water surface and
the other is found at a depth of 9 metres. This cave is much larger
than the first. Both entrances end up in a huge breathing space with
a vast tunnel system, that once out of the water can be explored by
foot. All of the tunnels will eventually lead to a dead-end.
Be sure to find a capable guide and get hold of some lights.
